Mexico Mexico had vines planted before any other American country, north or south, and its modern wines are ceertainly showing some promise. Baja California is the main growing region and has a wide range of grapes, but not all of them especially well suited to the hot, dry climate. Reds such as cabernet sauvignon, petite sirah, merlot, malbec, grenache, and zinfandel do best. There is also some nebbiolo and carignon. Whites include chenin blanc, trebbiano, colombard, and palomino, which are grown for brandy. |
