United States of America The United States is the fourth-largest wine producing nation in the world, behind Italy, France and Spain, and produces over 800 million gallons each year. As of 2005, every state in the union had at least one commercial winery when South Dakota joined the ranks anBut the U.S. is only number 33 in per-capita consumption at just 2.08 gallons per year, barely ahead of Uzbekistand bottled its first release.
To talk of wines from the United States is not to discuss California alone. But while the Golden State would rank as the sixth-largest wine producing nation in the world (if it were a nation), it is but one of the fifty wine-producing states worth exploring. When traveling across the country, one doesn’t have to go far to find a vineyard. Whether your travels take you to Amador County (CA), the Texas Hill country, Central Virginia, or Walla Walla (WA), there are outstanding wines to be enjoyed in every state.
